Speaking in Tongues: A Biblical Brief ReviewI grew uo attending a Baptist and what was called a "Holiness Church" and observed people who were supposed to be speaking in tongues. I, nor anyone else as I recall never understood what they were saying. In addition. there was never anyone who was able or capable of interpreting what these people were saying. As a child, I put it down as "show." When I reached my teens I understood speaking in tongues to mean that a person was filled with spirit. Still, I didn't understand speaking in tongues through scripture. This book while short in pages is long in providing me with an insight into the biblical as well as spiritual understanding of speaking in tongues. The writter takes pains to cite the relevant passages of the Bible to provide the reader with a good understanding of his work.
T found the book informative and very good explaning SPEAKING IN TONGUES.Speaking in Tongues: A Biblical Brief OverviewSpeaking in Tongues follows the quest of Reverend Herbert Bell, Jr. to find out the Biblical truth about speaking in tongues. Throughout his book, he uses various biblical and pastoral sources to determine the origins of the practice of speaking in tongues. His biblical resource is the New King James Version of the bible from which he has also drawn all of the scriptures used in the book. He examines the writings of John Wesley, Dr. Curtis Hutson and James M. Frye to weigh their response to the practice of speaking in tongues. In John Wesley, he finds a voice who just wants his congregation to be able to understand his message. Like Wesley, he has endeavored in this book to present the material in a manner so that all who read it may understand and profit from its content. As he delves more deeply into the writings of Hutson and Frye, he finds two theologians who also share his view of speaking in tongues. With that as a basis, Reverend Bell decided to search the Scripture for himself so that he would learn what God required of him as he worshipped Him in Spirit and in Truth.
